Johanna Tagada

(n. France) is a painter and interdisciplinary artist based in London.

With her rich body of often semi-autobiographical work, she wishes to generate positivity and positive feelings, deriving inspirations from her daily life and experience, as well as from close observation of nature. Theories related to Art Therapy and the Way of Tea are also at the root of her practice. Working and exploring across mediums such as painting, drawing, textiles, sculpture, photography, publishing and installation pieces, the artist is building a coherent and singular body of work, often described as poetic and delicate.

Until June 2010, she studied at the Fine Arts School Haute École des Arts du Rhin (HEAR – France). Above Fine Arts and Textile, the artist manifests a strong interest for Literature, Tea Culture, Cinema, Languages, Plants, Ecology, Traveling, Ethnology, Colonial and Post-Colonial History. Fluent in English, French and German, with an intermediate level in Japanese, also speaking & understanding several dialects.

In 2014, Johanna Tagada founded POETIC PASTEL, a positive and collaborative project, defined as an open conversation inspired by natural elements, warm memories, rhythm, colours, feelings, relationships, literature, poetry, tea culture and daily life. Poetic Pastel’s various project result in a series of exhibitions, meetings, writings, textiles and unique hand-bound publications.

Synopsis of project

Johanna Tagada for O Apartamento, June 2016

I aim to explore Lisbon and get a feeling of the city focusing on its natural elements, the connection felt. Using my analog camera I will take various photographs & have these develop and used further as reference for new paintings on paper. Collecting flowers and leafs on my strolls that I will try to press into the printed photographs, creating a new kind of diary. Which is a ongoing process in my practice.

As for the concept of O Apartamento, my work emphasis on “hospitality” therefor I will aim to create a soft textile sculpture a sort of habitat to install in the space during the exhibition period.
