Fountain, Flame, Fruit is an interview based independent documentary shot in 2010-2011 during an humanitarian campaign organised by Cinéma du Désert and sponsored by Italian NGO Bambini Nel Deserto, A truck team of social volunteers traveled 16.000 kms in 5 months – from Italy to Burkina-Faso (and back) – to deliver all kinds of aid materials to schools, orphanages, special care centres all over West Africa and a 400 kilo metal structure to hold a solar powered water pump for the Tata Oasis in Morocco. And that was just the beginning…We also carried with us a film projector to thank the locals for their hospitality, bringing the magic of the moving image for free directly to their home in some of the most remote places in the world. And we never stopped doing it. João will be present at this national premiere of his work and he will be joining us directly from his second trip to Burkina.

The aim of this documentary is to give an unbiased range of different personal views that touch a wide variety of polemic issues and relevant social struggles for the development of the African continent, such as: extreme poverty, corruption, Islamic law, female genital mutilation, Thomas Sankara assassination, lack of education, the Burkinabé revolution, religious missionaries in Africa, neo-colonialism, infectious diseases, lack of education, international exploitation of natural resources, abandoned babies, sexual tourism, Rastafarianism, etc.
