Preparations for Draping
Principles and Techniques of Garment Construction: The Bodice
The session will commence with a theoretical overview of all course principles (including highlighting all key terminology) where participants will become familiar with the fundamentals of draping while observing Daniele manipulate the toile on the mannequins. The morning will conclude with attendees themselves practicing with toile on their mannequins these basic principles to construct a bodice (the technical base for a host of garments).
PM Programme (4 hours / 3.30pm – 7.30pm)
Variations and Fantasy
Individual Draping Project
Practice makes perfect and here guests will do just this. Working themselves with their mannequins and toile on the basics, guests will be shown a variety of potential variations to build on their knowledge and ideally arrive at a personalised bodice garment in toile. The goal, aside from having fun, would be for each guest to not only obtain a greater understanding of the basic principles of garment construction but to walk away with the “blueprint” of a finished garment.
Daniele Orlandi and Michael Gagliotti
Daniele Orlandi, raised in Como, Italy, founded his atelier in 2014 despite initially commencing his studies in medicine. After spending some time outside of Italy, Daniele began to follow his true passion and subsequently completed numerous courses in fashion design, sartoria & pattern cutting (to name a few) at well-known institutions such as Istituto Maragoni (Milan), Istituto Secoli (Milan) & Polimoda (Florence). Furthermore, Daniele’s approach takes to heart a sustainable approach to fashion as seen in creative elements of his collections such as fabric selection which are all sourced from European suppliers who share similar ethical standards. Michael Gagliotti, life and business partner with Daniele since 2016, has worked in the international fashion arena since 2006 for brands such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Giorgio Armani, Coach and Hugo Boss in various roles but most recently as Buyer & Merchandise Planner. Michael, although Italian, is a native New Yorker, who has also also lived in Milan, London & Stuttgart and thus brings an interesting international business perspective to the partnership.
